What is Medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for:

  • People age 65 and up
  • People with disabilities
  • People with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

Medicare has four parts

Selecting a plan can be frustrating with all the information being thrown at you. That’s where we come in. Through our one on one needs assessments, we will provide clear, accurate, and trustworthy information to help make it easier for you to understand your Medicare coverage options.

Hospital Insurance

  • Inpatient care in hospitals
  • Skilled nursing facility care
  • Hospice care
  • Home health care
  • Part of original Medicare

Part B covers 2 Types of Services

  • Medically Necessary Services: Services or supplies that are needed to diagnose or treat your medical condition and that meet accepted standards of medical practice.
  • Preventative Services: Health care to prevent illness (like the flu) or detect it at an early stage, when treatment is most likely to work best.
You pay nothing for most preventive services if you get the services from a health care provider who accepts assignment.

Part B covers things like:

  • Clinical Research
  • Ambulance Services
  • Durable Medical Equipment (DME)
  • Mental Health — including Inpatient, Outpatient, & Partial Hospitalization
  • Limited Outpatient Prescription Drugs
  • Part of original Medicare

Medicare Advantage

  • All benefits and services under Part A and B
  • Usually includes Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D)
  • Run by Medicare-approved private insurance companies
  • Have yearly limit on your out-of-pocket costs for medical services
  • May include extra benefits or services not covered by original Medicare

Prescription Drug Coverage

  • Helps cover the cost of prescription drugs
  • Run by Medicare-approved drug plans
  • May help lower your prescription drug costs

Every Medigap policy must follow federal and state laws designed to protect you, and it must be clearly identified as “Medicare Supplement Insurance.” Insurance companies can sell you only a “standardized” policy identified in most states by letters.

All policies offer the same basic benefits but some offer additional benefits, so you can choose which one meets your needs.
